The tip of the proverbial iceberg

Folks, I know I’m hammering away at the idea of looking at an iceberg.  If you can see just the tip of the iceberg in regards to where we are going as a newspaper, imagine what you can’t see? Imagine what is happening in the background in order to get to this point?  However, we are going to hold off on our announcement for one more week for a couple of reasons.

First, we want to use our front page to announce our good exciting news but with all the local news going on this last week, we will hold off so we can focus on the important local news.

Secondly, the Home Improvement Show is happening this weekend at MetraPark Pavilion and Expo Center so we’re busy preparing for that as well.

Third, Divisional Basketball Tournament for Class B High Schools is also this weekend, and we are busy preparing for that which is also at the MetraPark so there are two events we are preparing for.

Fourth, we have hired a reporter that we will announce in the near future but we are still looking for an in-house reporter to join our expanding team. If you know of someone that you think will be a great asset to our expanding team, send him or her our way.  Therefore, since being down a reporter, we’re a little behind on some things, and we have a newspaper to get out each week, no matter the weather conditions.  Unfortunately, our newspaper does not have snow days.

Furthermore, since my truck died last weekend, it was not good timing as this and last week will be the worst weather conditions we’ve had this winter.  With temperatures reaching as low as -20 degrees, we have no choice but to report the weather as well.

I can’t express enough my appreciation to those who are out and about dealing with road conditions whether it be the plows, state, county and city vehicles that are trying to keep the roads safe and cleared.  Not to mention the towing companies this last weekend with all the accidents, dead batteries in cars and vehicles that froze up.  In fact, I thought I’d share two pictures I captured of Billings Towing and Repair coming to the aid of those who needed their service.

One of the pictures was captured while their big semi-truck wrecker was pulling the Shepherd school bus out of the ditch area off the road when the temperature was about -7 degrees two weeks ago.  The second picture is Billings Towing and Repair responding to my request to have my truck hauled to a repair shop.  I was impressed with how fast TJ, the driver, came to tow my truck to my desired location.

It’s great service from these businesses like Billings Towing and Repair (that also advertise in our newspaper), and other road maintenance personnel that help keep our roads safe.  Thank you for the service you provide the masses in Yellowstone County and beyond.

Stay safe and warm out there!

Until then, See you in the paper!
