Lockwood Water & Sewer discussion postponed

by Evelyn Pyburn

The Lockwood Water and Sewer District Board postponed a planned discussion about reducing reserve treatment capacity for the Lockwood Sewer System, because only three board members were present at their meeting Wednesday evening. The decision is important enough that all the board members should be given a chance to weigh-in said Carl Peters, Nancy Belk and Stu Deans, the board members who were present.

In the meantime, Manager Mike Ariztia said he would give the City of Billings Public Works Department a “heads up” that they were anticipating reducing their capacity. The city is in the process of recalculating their rate structure and knowing that they would be reserving less capacity for Lockwood would have an impact on setting rates. Negotiating the city will require opening the contract Lockwood has with the city, explained Ariztia, which would also give them a chance to request that the city allow them to expand the sewer district borders to include the Lockwood TEDD (Targeted Economic Development District) and a few other small areas where property owners have expressed a desire to be included in the district.
