Lockwood PTA receives playground grant

lockwood-montana-playgroundLOCKWOOD – The Lockwood PTA announced the receipt of a $20,000 donation for the building of a new Lion’s Lair from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation. Also, with the grant was the notice that the Foundation will match up to an additional $10,000, donated from other sources during the ensuing year.

The PTA had already raised $56,000 toward a goal of $230,000 to rebuild Lion’s Lair, a playground facility which had to be demolished because it had aged and deteriorated to a point of being a danger to children.

Lindsey Talmark, spokesperson for the PTA, said that they have high expectations to meet the $10,000 match, because of a number of fundraising events the PTA has planned,

The PTA is planning a 5K Fun Run in September, a golf tournament on Aug. 21, a kids’ walk-a-thon, and a theater presentation at NOVA in June. They are also selling T-shirts and approaching Lockwood businesses for donations.

They also have applied for a second grant for which they have high hopes of coming through.
