DEQ Dispute with Shepherd Schools

A special board meeting was held by Shepherd Public Schools to address an issue with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The issue includes the removal and replacement of an above-ground fire sprinkler pipe. The route of the pipe was determined acceptable by the DEQ, but there were points in the discussions that implicated that they may have needed to install a separate holding tank and pump system.

The issue now needs to be resolved. To do this, backflow preventers would need to be installed. The problem with the current ones is that “this valve should have been installed downstream and near the water tanks (upstream from the fire pump)” and instead was “installed on the downstream side of the fire pump.”
