NOW Chief St. John Decides to Take the Crime Seriously?

Dear Editor,

Hello, Council. This message is mainly for the mayor since he is technically the city of Billings “kingpin”. All jokes aside, I recently read this article

https://www.ktvq.com/news/crime-watch/billings-police-chief-vows-to-take-hard-line-against-rising-gang-violence

And can’t help but get furious. Because NOW the Chief decides to take the crime seriously? NOW?!?! He’s had 40+ years with this department and as Chief this is what it has become…..all on his watch. This is entirely his fault and the Mayor’s fault for the destruction of Billings.  The Mayor took an oath to the citizens of Billings and part of his job is to make sure the Chief is doing his job properly, not to enable the Chief with comments like “we will not let these killings define our community ” – well it’s TOO LATE!!

I’m sure these “gangs” will join the swim team and wait in line to be picked for the pickleball team, but until the rec center is built they are just bored, huh? How many gangs were supposedly identified? Will they each have their own swim team? Or hockey team? We could host the 1st Gangster Olympics!

You have completely lost control of the city that you have been entrusted with.  The people no longer trust you, Mayor. You have done a horrible job for Billings. Or is it that you’ve actually done great at getting more “funding” for Billings? The numbers have to go up to continue to get funding. Why would you ever try to solve homelessness or crime when it’s putting so much money in your pockets? Absolutely disgusted with what you have done to Billings.  As long as St. John has been Chief, this town has had an increasing decline, and it’s been worse since you have become mayor.

New motto…sing it with me now…”Damn it feels good to be a gangster”…

I speak the truth,

Melissa Harrell
