Long time (50+ years) Billings waitress at Dude Rancher Lodge, JB’s. 4B’s, Ramada Inn, St John’s Nursing Home Shirley Mae Moffit Lave, 82, of Billings, passed away on September 9th,2023 surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born on October 24th,1940 in Burleigh County, North Dakota to George and Margret Moffit.
Shirley grew up in Moffit, ND. A town that was named after her grandfather. Shirley was one of 15 children. As a child growing up on the farm her job was making sure the 500 chickens stayed warm, that meant she kept the fire stoked which led to long nights in the barn. After her hard nights in the barn, she would sneak off to read books during the day.
Shirley serviced the Billings community for over 55 years as the BEST WAITRESS in Billings, MT. She was still running circles around the 20-year-olds when she was 75 years old. She didn’t have a problem telling them how to do their jobs. She would laugh at them because she could carry 6 plates on one arm, and they only carried 2 at a time.
Shirley loved playing cards, word search puzzles, and reading. She never missed a nightly episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. She loved walking on the beach when she lived in Satellite Beach, Florida.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Shirley is survived by her 3 children Wanda (Brian) Kaiser of Vancouver, WA, Dale (Kelly) Spah of Billings, MT, Georgia (Brian) Giemza of Merritt Island, Fl. Granddaughter Rosalee Ybarra of the family home in Billings. 5 grandchildren Angie, Levi, Joey, Christopher and Summer. 5 great grandchildren Cameron, Jazzlynn, Kody, Thomas, and Olive.
Shirley was the most kindhearted, loving mother, friend, sister, grandmother and GG.
We will miss you every day until we see each other again.
Celebration of life for Shirley Moffit Lave. Friday September 15th. Viewing will be at 2 pm. Funeral will be at 3 pm. At Billings Cremation & Burial Services 29 8th St W, Billings.
